Outdoor Skydiving

In this article we’ll try to explain what outdoor skydiving is and we’ll also go over why we believe that our skydiving center is a great destination for those looking for outdoor skydiving. Let’s start off with something everyone should know: outdoor skydiving is a very exciting activity and people who try it often become so fascinated by the experience that they look forward to more skydiving jumps after their first. Does this sound good to you? Then keep on reading!

Is Outdoor Skydiving for you?

Outdoor skydiving is a sport that is suitable to a wide range of people and ages. In fact, at the contrary of what most people expect, as long as you are over 18 years old, age does not matter much when it comes to skydiving. We had skydivers who were well into their senior years and they had a lot of fun jumping at Skydive Baltimore. In fact, it wasn’t long ago that former US President George Bush Sr. marked his 90th birthday with a skydive in Maine. With that said, there are some restrictions and they are mostly related to the customer’s health and weight. In terms of health, the customer must be in good health. For people with known health issues or when they are over 70 years of age, we recommend that they check in with their doctor before choosing to skydive. In terms of weight, typically most skydiving centers require their customers to weigh less than 235lbs. Additional fees or restrictions may apply to customers over 200lbs. The weight factor is directly tied to the parachute’s ability to hold up a specific amount of weight.

Outdoor Skydiving: Solo Skydiving vs. Tandem Skydiving

Outdoor skydiving is a general term that encompasses both solo skydiving and tandem skydiving. There is a considerable difference between solo skydiving and tandem skydiving. Solo skydiving jumps are performed by skydivers who have received the necessary skydiving training are now fully qualified to handle a complete jump and related freefall without anyone’s assistance, apart from needing a certified pilot to fly the airplane they are jumping from. Tandem skydiving, instead, refers to the form of skydiving where a novice skydiver, often referred to as a student or passenger is attached through a safety harness to a certified tandem skydiving instructor who guides the student through all the steps, from the jump to the landing process. In tandem skydiving, you don’t have to have any skydiving experience or certification, because the tandem skydiving instructor guides you through the entire process. This is the most common type of “skydiving” that is offered by skydiving centers to the general population.
